AIMS OF VTC

The main aims of the VTC are:

  1. Exploration and collection of microorganisms of animal origin/significance/relevance;
  2. Central storage of animal microbes from existing culture collection centres, institutions and universities.
  3. Characterization, Documentation and Digitization of microbial database of cultures of Animal microbes;
  4. Development of a National Microbial Gene Bank for conserving the biodiversity of Animal microbes;
  5. Conservation (both short-term and long-term) and utilization of microorganisms and Identification of Animal microbes;

Moreover, other activities which naturally fall under the ambit of a Microbial Resource Centres including supply of authenticated cultures to users under material transfer agreements (MTA), helping prepare and providing data for international agreements/mechanisms, development of safety standards, facilitate IPR protection for novel microorganisms/clones/ biomolecules etc., surveillance of indigenous/exotic Animal microbes, molecular Landscape epidemiological studies, promotion of bioinformatics tools for quick access to information on Animal microbes by end-users, while serving as a national node for international networking and Human resource development will be undertaken in near future.
